Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can you make this product in to match the tan/ brown interior colour?
A: Yes, we can. We have a tan vinyl to match the door trim colour. Contact us on (02) 9546 7914, or send us an email- [email protected] to place an order.
Q: What speakers fit?
A: Our Original and Premium Speaker Door Pods are suitable for all 6.5" speakers. To avoid having to cut or drill into your steel door frame, select from one of our recommended speaker options. These are the speaker models we have test fitted and can confirm will fit without cutting, drilling or bending the steel door frame to allow for the depth and diameter of the speaker magnet.
If you would like to select another speaker brand/ model, you may need to cut the steel door frame to allow for the depth and diameter of the speaker magnet. This means the installer will need to vacuum and wash out the door frame (to remove any steel shavings that have landed inside the door), paint the raw edge and install rust proofing inside the door frame.
Q: What are the door pocket options?
A: You have a few door pocket options for the Front Speaker Door Pods:

TWEETER PILLAR PODS. These can be purchased directly from 4x4 Concepts. The pods are painted the same colour as the factory pillar covers. This is the ideal tweeter location for optimal sound staging. However, if you don't wish to purchase these, we can offer you a mounting plate to replace the genuine 4-inch speaker in the dashboard. Please see our options below.
Why We Do NOT Offer 6x9 Speaker Holes
We don't offer a Speaker Door Pod to suit a 6x9" speaker as the 70 Series LandCruiser doors are suited to have a round speaker installed. Fitment of an oval shape speaker in this vehicle model would require cutting and modification to the steel door frame. Below is some more information.
IMPORTANT- There is a small hole (approx. 120mm wide by 150mm high) at the front of the door frame in the 4-door 70 Series models. We have aligned the speaker hole in our Speaker Door Pod with the hole in the door frame so that the speaker magnet aligns perfectly and sits inside the door frame without any steel cutting or modifications to the door frame. This is only achievable with our recommended 6.5" speakers.
6x9" speakers require cutting of the door frame....
To fit a 6x9" speaker in the 70 Series LandCruiser models, the installer would need to take a jigsaw or nibbler to the door frame to create space for the speaker cradle and magnet. We doubt you'd want to cut steel out of the door frame in your pride and joy, but if you need more convincing, to prevent future rust issues in the door frame:

Q: Installation tips?
- Check your stereo is suitable to power the amount of speakers you'd like to install. If it is not, you may need to consider an amplifier or stereo upgrade.
- Whilst you can upgrade the 4" speakers under the dashboard, we find most customers opt to disconnect these 4" speakers from the stereo and use them as a speaker for a UHF radio. By doing this, the UHF is much louder and clearer and can be heard over the stereo.
- Run speaker cabling before installing the Speaker Door Pods.
- Don't use metal tools (e.g. a screwdriver) to remove plastic clips and accessories. Metal tools will damage the plastic. Some plastic trim removal tools are much better.
- Install sound deadening to the inside of the external steel in the door frame. Additional notes below.
- Applying some fish oil (or similar) inside the metal door frame while the door trims are off can prevent future rust issues (especially if you will be doing river crossings and water may enter the door frame).
Q: Sound deadening tips?
- Installing sound deadening to the inside of the external steel in the door will dampen vibration, reduce road noise and enhance the sound quality and volume of the speaker.
- Wipe the surface with wax and grease remover before installing the sound deadening.
- Once you've removed the door trim, you will need to cut the sound deadening into strips to fit it through the small access holes in the door.
- Try to cover as much of the steel as possible for the best result.

We doubt you'd want to cut steel out of the door frame in your pride and joy, but if you need more convincing, to prevent future rust issues in the door frame:
- There is extensive cleaning required to remove the steel swarf from inside the door frame
- The installer will need to paint the exposed steel edge
- Additional rust proofing is required inside the door frame
- The process above is time-consuming, expensive, and unnecessary
- The large woofer cone is a different width to length so it is obviously uneven. Due to the speaker shape, the woofer cone distorts more than a round speaker, affecting the sound quality at higher volumes.
- Simply put, 6x9s do not faithfully reproduce sound like separate components do. Component speakers offer a far better experience as they can be mounted separately for optimal staging and imaging.
- As the woofer is seated directly underneath the midrange and/or tweeter, it can cause great stress and problems for the midrange and/or tweeter, which is trying to play a higher frequency than the pounding a woofer underneath. More often than not midrange clarity tends to suffer and can sound blurred as the woofer underneath wins every time.
